Keeping On...Keeping On!
TWO WEEKS IN! It's time for the Monday check-in with Wyld Wyrds.
Two weeks ago I started on a program in hopes of making a major change in my life...at 64 having the physique of the 32 year old Bruce Lee. I'll reiterate that I'm not deluding myself into thinking that I can actually have the incredible body of Bruce at his peak but more of a goal to see how far I can take this. Too many times the older we get the more sedentary we get. it's really easy to sit in my easy chair in front of the telly and vegetate! I've spent the last three years in a bad place and figured it was time to break out of it and do something for myself so I wouldn't wind up as an older man taking a handful of medications for any number of chronic issues that would drive my quality of life down the toilet. Even with what the universe has dealt me I still love life and want to experience as much of it as possible and that means staying on top of my health. The Standard American Diet (SAD) has no place in this.
So time for a number rundown after two weeks. After two weeks on the Wyld Program (catchy title) my weight is at 188.4. I began two weeks ago at 193.8 and a quick math calculation says that I'm down 5.4 pounds! That's not too shabby and a fairly healthy way to lose the weight. I'm going to wait until the end of 30 days to do another measurement to see how my body is reacting but I can already tell that my clothes are fitting a lot better and in once case now almost falling off! There was one day over the weekend that we ate out at a Mexican restaurant and I ate half of a spinach burrito and drank a beer. My weight popped up a little over half a pound after that due to the loads of fat and sodium!
A thought about weight plateau's! This is not based in any kind of science but it does seem to me that the human body is pretty amazing and that as we begin a healthy diet and exercise program that it may take said amazing body to acclimate to various phases. So as we start shedding a few pounds the body (IMHO) looks at us and says...oh, so you've decided to treat me right now...I'll drop a couple pounds. Then it sits there and waits for us to start feeding it the same old Standard American Diet. Once we surprise it by keeping on feeding it good, healthy foods it says, ok...we're really doing this? And you drop a few more pounds before once again hitting a plateau. The body is working behind the scenes trying to works its magic to accommodate the new, good nutrition you are giving it and at the same time preparing for the worse (that being a greasy cheeseburger and fries with a soda to wash it down!) Eventually the body gets to a point where it starts getting comfortable with the new norm and responds in kind. Yep, the body is an amazing machine!
Ok, Wyld Bunch. That's all for this time. I hope you may be finding some small nuggets of gold in here that might be of help to you. I'm keepin' on...keepin' on!! -G
